Ondo 2020: 372, 888 PVCs uncollected in Ondo-REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo state, Mr. Rufus Akeju, has revealed that no fewer than 372, 888 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) are yet to be collected despite several appeals made to the owners.
According to Mr. Akeju, the state currently has a total of 1, 822, 346 registered voters. He, however, noted that only 1, 478, 460 people who have collected their PVCs are eligible to vote in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The REC also stated that the commission would go-ahead to conduct the gubernatorial as planned despite the Corona Virus pandemic. He explained that the commission would put in place and adhere to all precautionary measures as prescribed by health officials and the government to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic during the conduct of the election.
He further assured all participating political parties, candidates, and electorates of the commission’s readiness to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.
The REC added that some of the ad-hoc staff to be engaged for the election would be sourced online while documents containing the guidelines for the election would be made public soon.
