MAKURDI – Suspected Herdsmen on Monday night has attacked the internally displaced persons, IDP camp, Abagana in the Agan council ward of Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue state killing seven persons with many others injured.
Following the attack and killings, angry youth who protested and blocked the Makurdi -Lafia road with the dead bodies.
Governor Samuel Ortom called on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his responsibility of protecting Nigerians.
The attack which occurred around 12am also left several people injured.
A resident of the Abagana community who narrated the incident to newsmen said the gunmen forcefully gained access into the camp shot some and macheted the others.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom who visited the scene of the attack described it as barbaric, cowardly and unacceptable, calling President Muhammed Buhari for urgent action against the activities of militia herdsmen across the country.
He lamented that in the last two weeks, over seventy persons had been killed by herdsmen in Makurdi Local Government, alleging that the leaders of Miyetti Allah were behind the attack.
Governor Ortom appealed to the president to convene a security summit where he would personally address the nation on the state of insecurity and what needed to be done to surmount the challenges and to declares a state of emergency on security.
