AKURE – The zonal public hearing for the review of the 1999 Constitution had commenced at the International Culture and Event Centre, Akure on Wednesday as Governor Rotimi Akeredolu backed the adoption of 1963 constitution.
While declaring the public hearing open, Governor Akeredolu stated that 1963 constitution would be best for a country like Nigeria.
He said it is safe to return to the 1963 constitution because it is the best Constitutional document Nigeria has ever produced.
He called on citizens to fight for their rights, confirming that power belongs to the people.
He said “People will always feel cheated when you appoint public officials only from one part of the country.
“I believe in Nigeria but we must do things fairly.
“For instance, I’m a Yoruba man before being a Nigerian. That’s the truth and we must respect it.
“Some says Nigeria is non negotiable. We have to come together and negotiate the country.
