TECHNOCRAT MEDIA | Abuja

A non-governmental organisation, YIAGA Africa has concluded plans to hold a town hall meeting on the rejected electoral amendment bill.

On December 21, President Muhammadu Buhari had declined assent to the amended electoral act as passed by the national assembly over some grey areas which according to the president could cause electoral war, cost the nation more to hold elections among others.

A statement on the organisation’s website said the amendment is designed according to YIAGA to increase participation in Nigeria’s electoral processes by making it more credible, transparent, and inclusive.

The organisation said the signing of the bill into law is critical to increasing citizen participation in democratic practices, adding that it guarantees the durability and transparency of Nigeria’s elections – especially the 2023 general election.

YIAGA said the town hall meeting is to discuss key provisions of the electoral act bill 2021, implications on election management, security, integrity, and voter participation.

The meeting will also faction out actions the legislative and executive should embark on to conclude the process.
