A leading Nigeria’s nonprofit organisation, BudgIT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ondo state government on budget and fiscal transparency.
BudgIT in a statement on Monday on its Twitter handle said the organisation will design an Open State Portal for the Ondo state government.
“To kick off this partnership, BudgIT will design an Open State Portal for the Ondo state govt in collaboration with its technical team. This portal will serve as a repository for its pre-budget statements, implementation reports, budget proposals & other financial documents.”
“Beyond this, we have also pledged our support to further strengthen the state government’s work on fiscal reforms by working closely with stakeholders to close the observed gaps in its current frameworks for fiscal responsibility.”
“BudgIT’s support for the state will also strengthen its monitoring and impact measurement framework through the office of the Performance and Project Monitoring Implementation Unit (PPIMU). #OpenStates.” the statement reads.
BudgIT added that “The signing took place at the Retreat for Political Office Holders and Accounting Officers in Ondo state with – Arakurin Olurotimi Akeredolu, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, his Deputy, Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa, alongside the State’s Attorney General and SSG. #OpenStates“
“BudgIT is utterly proud of this new partnership, and we look forward to supporting the state government’s work on fiscal reforms to ensure an open and inclusive government in Ondo State. #OpenStates,” the organisation added.
It however urged other state governments in Nigeria to subscribe to this initiative as it will effectively raise local and foreign investment channels for economic growth, development, and sustenance.
