President and vice-president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima have received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The event occurred at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, INEC’s venue of the national collation centre of the results of the presidential poll.
Tinubu and Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the presidential election held on Saturday.
The former Lagos state governor of APC scored the highest votes of 8,805,655 and secured victory in 12 states of Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, and Ogun.
Speaking at the event, the president-elect said the road to his victory has “been long”.
“The road has been long, yet we worked it. The battle has been hard fought, yet we won it,” he said.
He said his certificate of return symbolises that each Nigerian has the ability to achieve their dreams.
He promised to work day and night to ensure the country’s development.
“By taking this sacrifice, I accept a sacred duty. I will work day and night to make Nigeria better. We are committed to the progress and development of Nigeria,” he said.
