Nigeria: Tinubu, Shettima sworn-in as president, vice president

Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima have been sworn in as the 16th president and vice president of Nigeria.

“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, do solemnly swear that I will not allow my personal interests to influence my official conduct or decisions… So help me, God”.

“I, Kashim Shettima, do solemnly swear that I will not allow my personal interests to influence my official conduct or decisions… So help me, God”.

The oath of office was administered by the chief justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola at Eagles Square in Abuja on Monday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu and Shettima, the presidential and vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 poll.

In the results, Mr Tinubu of the APC scored the highest votes of 8,805,655 and secured victory in 12 states of Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo,  and Ogun.

Atiku of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) scored 6,984,290 votes to secure victory in 12 states of Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa,  Taraba,  Osun, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa.

Obi of the Labour Party (LP) got 6,093,962. He won also 12 states of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, FCT, Plateau, Imo, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia, and Enugu.
