Police council confirms Egbetokun as substantive IGP

The National Police Council has confirmed the appointment of Kayode Egbetokun as Nigeria’s inspector-general of police (IGP).

The National Police Council has confirmed the appointment of Kayode Egbetokun as Nigeria’s inspector-general of police (IGP).

In June, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Egbetokun as the acting IGP pending the confirmation of the council.

Until his appointment in June, he was a deputy inspector-general of police (DIG).

The National Police Council

The members of the Nigeria Police Council include the President who is the chairman; the 36 Governors of the Federation; the chairman of the Police Service Commission; and the Inspector-General of Police.

Amongst other functions of the Council is the organisation and administration of the Nigeria Police Force and all other matters relating thereto (not being matters relating to the use and operational control of the Force or the appointment, disciplinary control and dismissal of members of the Force); the general supervision of the Nigeria Police Force and advising the President on the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police.
