States to spend over N9trn for capital projects in 2024

Nigeria’s thirty-six state governments have budgeted over nine trillion naira as capital expenditures (CapEx) for the 2024 fiscal year.

Nigeria’s thirty-six state governments have budgeted over nine trillion naira as capital expenditures (CapEx) for the 2024 fiscal year.

PROMAD, a civic tech organisation tracking the implementation of capital projects, in its analysis of the CapEx in the 2024 state budgets revealed the details of what the 36 state governments planned to spend on capital projects at the sub-national levels in the country.

According to the analysis, Lagos State is leading the 2024 CapEx ranking with N1.315 trillion followed by Imo State with N491.239 billion and Akwa-Ibom State with N490.91 billion.

Others include Abia State with its N475.741 billion allocation, Niger State with N464.056 billion and Ogun State with N415.656 billion.

The states with the lowest CapEx allocations for 2024 include Ekiti with N71.994 billion, Nasarawa with N82.741 and Osun with N108.250 billion.

Ranking of CapEx by Geo-Political Zones

PROMAD said the south-west has the highest with N2.348 trillion allocations by its state governments followed by the south-south having N1.943 trillion and the south-east and northwest have the same allocations of N1.745 trillion.

The north-central without the Federal Capital Territory has a vote of N1.106 trillion and the lowest goes to the north-east having N994.76 billion.
