The organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended their nationwide industrial action for one week.

Festus Osifo, TUC president confirmed the development to Channels TV in Abuja on Tuesday after a joint extraordinary national executive council meeting of the unions.

“A joint NEC meeting of TUC/NLC has approved to relax the industrial action for one week with immediate effect,” Osifo said.

He added that a communique will be issued shortly.

NLC and TUC commenced a nationwide strike on Monday over the failure of the government to announce and implement a new minimum wage after the removal of fuel subsidy, hike in electricity tariff and high inflation rate in the country.

The industrial action led to the shutdown of the national grid and, the closing of airports and hospitals across the country.
