The Board said the results of 39,834 candidates were withheld over suspected examination malpractices.

The registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Friday at the headquarters of the Board, Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Oloyede said the withholding of results of some candidates followed suspected examination malpractices.

He further revealed that about 80 individuals are being probed for exam-related offences, with Anambra State having the highest number of suspects.

Before the official release of results, JAMB’s statistics on the performance of the 1.9 million candidates who participated in the exam were released.

According to the statistics, over 1.5 million candidates failed to score up to 200 marks—which attracted reactions from different stakeholders.

The UTME is graded out of a total of 400 marks and assesses candidates in four core subjects. Use of English is compulsory for everyone, while the remaining three subjects are chosen based on the candidate’s intended field of study.

The performance data got the reaction of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who said the results reflect the effectiveness of government efforts to curb exam malpractice.

“The high failure rate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is clear evidence that the government’s anti-malpractice measures are yielding results, especially within the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board system,” he said.
