Ekiti bye-election: Peace Ambassador seek adequate security during elections

EKITI – The Senior Special Adviser on Peace Matters to the President of Forum 36+Peace and Unity, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olumuyiwa Babalola has called on government and security agencies to put in place pragmatic modalities that would forestall a repeat of what happened in Omuo – Ekiti during the Saturday bye-election.

Babalola who was appointed recently by the Federation of United Nations Peace Ambassadors and Governing Council of Forum 36+Peace and Unity in Nigeria as the Senior Special Adviser on Peace Matters to the President said “the nation’s democracy would remain stagnant under an atmosphere of violence and killings urging all political parties to embrace peace.

According to Report, Three persons were killed while many sustained gunshot injuries after some political thugs open fire at electorates during the conduct of the Ekiti East Constituency one bye–election in Omu Ekiti.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Babalola condemned such a dastardly act, He quote “necessary machinery must be put in place to ensure the safety of everyone participating in an election.”

Olumuyiwa Babalola who is also an Assistant Commander General on Small Arms and Light Weapons Control of Nigeria Hunter Group termed the incident as political caucus interest, uncared attitude, and lack of love of citizens.

According to him, the dastardly act has caused a lot of damages to the families of the deceased, the state, and the whole country at large.

He, therefore, advised the Governor of the State, Kayode Fayemi to direct the Commissioner of Police in the State to ensure that everyone involved in the violent act should be apprehended and brought to the criminal book of record.
