Ondo Doctors has issued a fresh 24 hours ultimatum to Ondo State Government over their unpaid four months salaries and arrears and has concluded plans to proceed on another indefinite strike.

In a statement obatined by TECHNOCRAT MEDIA and signed by the general secretary of the association of resident doctors, John Matthew, he said,

“Rising from the maiden ordinary general meeting of the Association of Resident Doctors, UNIMEDTHC, Ondo State, on the 3rd of June, 2021, the Ondo State Government has been given another 24 hours, despite the expiration of the previous 14 days ultimatum, to pay up all her arrears or would resume her previously suspended indefinite strike.

“It is sad and depressing that as at 3rd of June, 2021, the resident doctors in the state are yet to be paid their arrears of February, March, April and May, 2021.

Matthew said, the doctors have been subjected to harsh working conditions with shortage of doctors and the worsening state of the economy.

They lamented the way and manner salary issues are being handled in the state and if left to continue this way, no doctor would be left to continue to work under such horrific conditions.

“The Association would also like to dissuade the government from continuing the act of comparing the services rendered in the health sector with other sectors.

“We cannot accept to be paid in percentages as we work twenty-four hours, seven days a week and are exposed to health hazards from managing all manner of sicknesses and diseases with little or no protective equipments.

“We are expected to consider the care of our patients over our own well-being despite being subjected to inhumane working conditions.

“We hope the health of the people of Ondo State would be prioritised as well as the welfare of the doctors who have decided to care for them even in the midst of scarce resources to prevent further loss of lives and proliferation of quackery in the state, Matthew said.
