Both chambers of the 1oth National Assembly have elected and named their principal officers.

In June, the senators elected Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin as president and deputy president of the Senate immediately after the inauguration.

Also, the members of the House of Representatives elected Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamen Kalu as the speaker and deputy speaker of the House.

Thereafter, both chambers proceeded on break to allow the new lawmakers to settle down for legislative business.

Senate

Resuming plenary on Tuesday, the Akpabio announced the names of the principal officers of the Senate.

Opeyemi Bamidele was announced as majority leader; David Umahi as deputy majority leader and Mohammed Ali Ndume as majority whip. He also announced Lola Ashiru as deputy majority whip.

The minority positions were also announced. They include Simon Mwadkon, minority leader; Oyewumi Olalere, deputy minority leader; Darlington Nwokocha, minority whip and Rufai Hanga, deputy minority whip.

House of Reps

Also at the lower chamber, Abbas announced the principal officers for the House.

Julius Ihonvbere as majority leader; Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims as deputy majority leader; Usman Bello Kumo as chief whip and Adewumi Onanuga as deputy whip.

Abbas also announced the minority positions. They include Kingsley Chinda as minority leader; Aliyu Sani Madaki as deputy minority leader; Ali Isa as minority whip and George Ozodinobi as deputy minority whip.
