Mohammed Abubakar, the director of public prosecution (DPP) of the federation, says the federal government will file 20 fresh charges against Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Abubakar told journalists at the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday.
This development comes as the federal government made an oral application to withdraw the charges of “illegal possession of firearms” against Emefiele.
After Emefiele was suspended from office, the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested him and commenced the prosecution of Emefiele for “illegal possession of a firearm”.
The new charges might be connected with the revelation contained in the 7-year financial statements of the CBN released amid the probe of the apex bank by the federal government.
