The Rivers State House of Assembly has elected its former majority leader, Edison Ehie, as its new speaker.
The development comes hours after Ehie was removed as the leader of the House to pave the way for the impeachment of the governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, by the camp of the assembly members who are allegedly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.
However, the lawmakers loyal to the governor impeached the speaker of the house and elected the former majority leader, Edison Ehie as the new speaker.
Fubara has congratulated the new speaker on his official X handle.
The governor said he has committed no offence that warrants any impeachment move by the assembly.
Meanwhile, the chief judge of Rivers State, Simeon Amadi, has also been suspended from office.
