Abuja, NIgeria
On Monday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria ordered their affiliates to withdraw their services nationwide from midnight on November 14, 2023.
This was contained in a statement signed by the general secretaries of NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja and TUC, Nuhu Toro on Monday.
The statement directed workers to withdraw their services.
They also directed state councils and affiliates to ensure compliance.
The organised labour is protesting the battering of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and some other executives of the congress in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1, as well as the pending labour issues in Imo State.
The police also arrested Ajaero ahead of a state-wide protest in Imo, as disclosed by the NLC’s Head of Information, Benson Upah.
A claim that was denied by the police saying Ajaero was merely taken into protective custody to prevent a mob attack, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, accused the labour leader of meddling in the political affairs of the state.
