A federal high court in Lagos has adjourned the naira abuse case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest.
Okechukwu was arraigned on April 17 on a three-count charge of allegedly spraying and tampering with the country’s naira notes during a social event at Eko Hotel in Lagos.
The socialite was also alleged to have sprayed the naira on February 13, 2024, at the hotel, according to EFCC.
Cubana chief priest was accused of tampering with the denomination of N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by spraying the same for two hours.
After his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The presiding judge, Kehinde Ogundare, granted Okechukwu bail with ₦10 million in addition to two sureties in like sum who must be gainfully employed with the federal or state government and not less than grade level 16.
According to the judgement, the sureties are to have landed property, and the court must verify the lands’ documents.
