The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said the social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was arrested following multiple petitions against him.
EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in an interview with BBC News Pidgin, according to The Punch, on Monday.
Oyewale said VeryDarkMan was arrested and taken into custody following complaints from several petitioners on the allegation of cyberstalking.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” he said.
“We will release him when he meets the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible; we are law-abiding.”
He was asked whether the case was connected to Guaranty Trust Bank, to which Oyewale responded that the petitions came from separate individuals and that the agency had a duty to protect them.
He further stated that the commission was preparing to arraign the social media activist.
