Google has announced $350,000 in cloud credits for 15 African AI startups solving local challenges.
In a statement by the global tech company on Tuesday, the 15 startups were selected from about 1,500 applications received for the 2025 Google for Startups Accelerator Africa.
According to the company, the startups will receive support through the ninth cohort of the three-month programme that offers technical mentorship and access to global investors.
The statement further revealed that the highest beneficiaries are from Nigeria—leading the list with six startup solutions that focused on digital health, credit checks, global payments, importation, software testing, and fraud detection.
Google announced that the remaining startups—hailing from Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Senegal, and South Africa—are applying AI technologies across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, logistics, and financial services.
Folarin Aiyegbusi, Google’s Head of Startup Ecosystem for Africa, emphasised the company’s dedication to backing African entrepreneurs who are developing AI-driven solutions tailored to local needs.
“African startups are at the forefront of solving critical challenges across the continent,” he said.
“This program reflects our belief that AI can be transformative when shaped by those who understand the context deeply”.
He added that Google is excited to support these founders, who are creating impactful solutions and contributing to the development of an inclusive AI ecosystem across Africa.
