ABUJA – Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Government may start sourcing the money for ransom internally.
In an interview with The Danfo Nation, He said “We have been paying too much money as ransoms. It’s just too much. This month alone, we paid billions of Naira to bandits as ransoms, and this is depleting our national treasury. We are getting broke day by day. In fact, as I speak to you, we may need to borrow from China in order to pay the next set of ransoms because I know as I speak, some set of students are being kidnapped by these bandits.
“But we wont be pushed to getting another loan from China. China is already getting tired of us coming to beg them for loan every time. The last time we went to beg for loan, they were giving us some funny attitudes. I don’t blame them of course.
So the government may start sourcing the money for ransom internally. Nigerians may be asked to start paying for these ransoms. We are more than 200 million people, if each of us contributes 20 Naira, trust me, we will comfortably raise the ransom for these bandits. How much is 20 Naira that we cannot raise? After all, these kidnapped students are fellow Nigerians as well.”
