Man beaten to death in Ondo over stolen Generator

ONDO – A middle aged man simply Identified as Ajao, escaped being lynched by the whiskers on Tuesday, as an angry mob beat him to a state of coma for stealing a generator at the South gate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in Akure South local government area of Ondo State.

It was Reported that, Residents of the area were said to have descended on him and beat him to stupor after they caught him in the act at a commercial centre along the popular FUTA South gate.

An eyewitness told newsmen that he and his friends living in the area rescued Ajao, who was caught red-handed while attempting to steal the generator from the business centre.

he said some of the residents who in recent time have been victims of generator theft stripped the suspect naked before beating him mercilessly.

According to the source, they would have set him on fire, but for much pleadings by some elders in the area, who prevailed on the crowd from taking laws into their hands.

Also, one of the residents who spoke under the condition of anonymity said the young man have been a specialist in stealing generators in the area for a very long time.
“There was a day I saw him with another generator. I knew he stole it because that’s what he has been doing.
”The following morning, I heard someone was caught while stealing another generator from somewhere else. So, when I went to find out who it could be, I discovered that was same Ajao.
”I have been suspecting him. And I’m happy he has been caught red handed,” the man said.
The Hope Metro learnt that the suspect is currently being detained at the nearby police station.
