We’ve not been paid, Special Public Works participants cry out

ABUJA – Participants in the Special Public Works programme launched in January by the Federal Government have complained about the non-payment of their stipends three months after the initiative took off.

Some of the participants took to the Twitter platform to query the delay in payment of their N20,000 monthly stipend directed at the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN.

On March 20, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the release of funds to pay participants their stipends but some weeks after, the directive has not been implemented.

Another Twitter user, Dubagari Jnr in his tweet “What is happening with the SPW? Up till now, we have not been paid and have successfully finished our work. Please Hon. minister we need explanations on why we have not been paid and you have to start the disbursement before fasting (Ramadan).

But according to THE PUNCH, Abubakar Fikpo, the acting Director-General, National Directorate of Employment, said, “We are still in the process; we have identified some loopholes here and there. We want to verify the BVN of the participants. That is why we are working with the banks.
