Our current constitution lied against the people – Tunji Abayomi

AKURE – Tunji Abayomi, a constitutional lawyer says the current constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria lied against the people of the country by inserting the phrase “we the people agreed to be governed by the 1999 constitution”.

He spoke in Akure at the ongoing two-day zonal public hearing exercise on constitution review by the Senate arm of the national assembly.

Abayomi said “The peoples of Nigeria never gathered to make 1999 Constitution.

“We must do away with the current constitution and let the people come together to make a new one for the nation.

He called on the national assembly to make a new law that would allow the people to come together for a new constitution not amendment.

“Make a law to set a parameter for the peoples of Nigeria to make a constitution for themselves not this current one.

He echoed “the peoples, the peoples, the peoples.
