No inclusion of PWDs as 14 political parties battle for 6 council chairmen, 62 councilor seats in FCT council election

Fourteen political parties (14) are set to participate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council election jostling for six (6) chairmen and sixty-two (62) councilor seats.

Fourteen political parties (14) are set to participate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council election jostling for six (6) chairmen and sixty-two (62) councilor seats.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the FCT council election to hold on February 12, 2022.

In the summary of the candidates and party’s data released by INEC, 55 candidates from fourteen political parties are eyeing to occupy the chairmanship and vice chairmanship seats.

The data also revealed that 363 candidates are contesting to become ward councilors in the six local council areas of the federal capital territory (FCT).

The breakdown shows gender and inclusion of persons living with disability (PWDs).

Gender of candidates

52 of the chairmanship candidates are male as only 3 females were on the list. For the vice chairmanship, 47 are male while the female is 8.

For the councillorship, 332 are males while 31 are female.

Inclusion of PWDs

No person living with a disability is contesting for any of the seats available.

Parties’ participation

The fourteen (14) political parties participating in the election include Action Alliance (AA); African Action Congress (AAC); African Democratic Congress (ADC); Action Democratic Party (ADP); All Progressives Congress (APC); All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Allied Peoples Movement (APM); Labour Party (LP); New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); National Rescue Movement (NRM); People Democratic Party (PDP); Social Democratic Party (SDP); People’s Redemption Party (PRP); and Young Progressives Party (YPP).
