Months after a court order, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has released to the former governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili his international passport.
Jimoh Adamu, NIS lawyer told a federal high court in Abuja said Odili’s daughter, Njideka Nwosu-Iheme who is currently a judge of the high court of the federal capital territory (FCT) collected the passport on her father’s behalf on December 20, 2021, at NIS headquarters.
According to THE PUNCH, Mr Adamu in a motion filed exhibited a letter of request by Mr Odili and other evidence showing that his passport has been released to him.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, before whom the case came up on Mondays said the fresh motion was not yet available to the according to a report by Channels TV.
In October last year, Justice Ekwo had ordered NIS to immediately release the former governor’s international passport saying the seizure was illegal, unconstitutional.
The Judge said it was an infringement on Mr Odili’s fundamental rights.
The judge further ordered the service, to tender an apology to the former governor, and restrained the NIS from harassing and intimidating him from leaving the country or moving freely within the country.
