Richard Montgomery CMG has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to a press release by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) on March 7, Montgomery will succeed Ms Catriona Laing CB.
His appointment is to take effect from April 2023.
What to know about Richard Montgomery CMG
Between 2018 to 2022, he was the UK Executive director at the World Bank Group in Washington.
From 2015 to 2018, he served as the director of the Department for International Development (DFID) for the Asia, Caribbean & Overseas Territories (AsCOT) Division.
He served in Pakistan between 2013 to 2015 as a counsellor (Development) and head of office, DFID.
Mr Montgomery was in Nigeria between 2009 and 2013 as a counsellor (Development) and head of the DFID Nigeria office.
From 2006 to 2009, he was the deputy director of DFID and head of corporate human resources, and head of security at East Kilbride.
He served as the deputy team leader of the top management group of the DFID from 2005 to 2006.
He was in Lusaka as the deputy head of DFID in Zambia from 2002 to 2005.
The new commissioner also served in Dhaka as the senior social development adviser for DFID Bangladesh from 1999 to 2002.
He also worked in New Delhi between 1996 to 1999 as the social development adviser for DFID in India.
Mr Montgomery was a lecturer of International Development, the Centre for Development Studies at Swansea University from 1993 to 1996.
