The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC), says the Commission will write the inspector-general of police (IGP) to prosecute the resident electoral commissioner (REC) in Adamawa state.

The REC, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, had on Sunday polarised the political atmosphere of the states by declaring Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election while collation of results from the rerun exercise was still ongoing.

INEC in a statement via its verified Twitter handle said it arrived at the decision during its meeting today, 18th April 2023.

“2.   Request the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to draw the attention of the appointing authority to the unwholesome behaviour of the REC for further action.

“3. The collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer”, the statement reads.
