President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Femi Gbajabiamila, the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, as his chief of staff (CoS) and George Akume as the secretary to the government of the federation.
Tinubu made the announcement on Friday in Abuja during his first meeting with the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).
Gbajabiamila had won his 6th term election to the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
The speaker who is yet to collect his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will now have to forfeit his 6th term following his appointment as CoS to the president.
Akume is the immediate past minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs. He was the minority leader of the Senate from June 2011 until June 2015.
He served as governor of Benue from 1999 to 2007 — the same period when Tinubu served Lagos as its governor.
Tinubu also named Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former deputy governor of Jigawa state as the deputy chief of staff.
