The military junta in the Niger Republic has announced the formation of a new cabinet with the appointment of 21 ministers.

This development followed the sacking of the country’s democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum.

TheCable reports that the announcement was made in a televised broadcast on Wednesday night by Mahamane Roufai Laouali.

In his capacity as the ‘secretary general of the government’, he read out the names of 21 ministers without any tip on the next plans.

Three of the coup leaders who ousted Bazoum were named ministers of defence, interior and sports.

On Tuesday, the military announced Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine as the country’s prime minister who will now head the government.
