Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, registrar and chief executive officer of the National Examination Council (NECO), says 61.60% of students scored five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics in the 2023 senior secondary school examination (SSCE) results.
The registrar made the announcement at NECO headquarters while briefing Journalists in Minna on the results of the June/July 2023 SSCE released on Tuesday by the Council.
Wushishi disclosed that a total of 1,205,888 students registered for the 2023 examination.
He added that out of the 1, 196, 985 candidates that sat for the examinations, 616,398 were males and 580,587 were females.
In 2022, NECO said a minimum of 727,864, or 60.74 per cent of the 1,198,412 candidates who sat for the SSCE got at least five credits, including English language and Mathematics.
In the 2022 NECO SSCE, 60.74%, the 2023 SSCE showed a decrease of 0.86% in the number of candidates who scored five credits and above in the two subjects.
Also in 2021, at least 71.64% of the candidates who sat for the examination obtained five credits in the two major subjects.
