Bamidele Oleyelogun and Iroju Ogundeji have been reelected as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the ninth Ondo State House of Assembly unopposed. The ninth assembly which was inaugurated following the dissolution of the eight assembly after the expiration of a four year tenure.
The Clerk of the house, Bode Adeyelu who preside the election at the floor of the house announced the elected officers after he informed the new members to indicate interest in the top two positions by raising up their hand and no one could do it until he announced the speaker and the deputy unopposed.
Oleyelogun who is being reelected for the third term by the people of Ifedore local government while serving as speaker in the eight assembly faced several impeachment saga which were resolved by the leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) of which included the vice president, Yemi Osibanjo and the governor of Ekiti State, John Kayode Fayemi was nominated and elected unopposed by the new lawmakers to lead the ninth assembly.
One of the new members representing Akoko North West Constituency, Kuti Oluwasegunota who moved Oleyelogun nomination and Wale Williams, representing Ile Oluji seconded the motion as speaker.
Oluwasegunota described the new speaker as a topnotch democrat in promoting good legislative leadership and his wealth of experience as the most ranking legislator will no doubt improve the activities of the state government.
Oleyelogun who joyfully accept his nomination as pronounced by his colleagues appreciate the confidence repose in him to take the number one office in the 9th assembly and thanked the governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his unwavering support for the assembly.
The Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji is serving as a second term legislator representing Odigbo constituency I haven served as special assistant to the governor, head of direct labour agency and commissioner for labour and productivity in Ondo State.
On electing other principal officers of the ninth assembly, Oleyelogun pointed out that as agreed in their caucus meeting with the leadership of the All Progressive Congress presided over by Engr. Ade Adetimehin, announced Jamiu Sulaimon Maito representing Akoko North West I as the majority leader and Olumide Oladeji, representing Ondo East Constituency as his deputy.
Toluwani Borokini representing Akure I named Whip, Abayomi Akinruntan from Ilaje constituency I was given Parliamentary Secretary and Akinrongunde Akintunmide representing Okitipupa 1 named assistant parliamentary secretary and Rasheed Olegbeleye from Akoko North East is Minority Leader.
The house has proceeded on four weeks working recess and resumes July 9, 2019 to enable the members to settle down properly for legislative assignments.
Chatting with the lawmaker representing Owo Constituency II, Adeyemi vowed to carry his constituents along for the next four years as he would organize quarterly town hall meetings to drive human empowerment and community development.
Earlier, the house had converged at around 11.20 am and commenced valedictory sitting for the outgoing members of the eight assembly of hope. The speaker took time to praise the eight assembly and his colleagues for job well done on numerous policy debates, motions and resolutions and passing of bills to ensure the state remain of the best in terms of legislation, administration and governance in Nigeria. He gave account that a total number of forty-five bills were passed and several motions and resolution considered by the house in the eight assembly.
