Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has ordered the Ondo State House of Assembly to reinstate the Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji, and two other lawmakers; Mr. Wale Williams from Ondo west constituency II and Mr. Favour Tomomewo from Ilaje II, who were recently suspended by the assembly over alleged misconducts.
This verdict was given by Justice Ademola Bola. The justice described the suspension of the lawmakers as unlawful stressing that it was illegal to prevent an elected legislator from performing his/her constitutional duties.
The court however reversed their suspension and ordered the assembly to immediately pay all their entitlements and also pay them five-million-naira compensation to each of them.
The three lawmakers were among the nine lawmakers who opposed the impeachment of the state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi a few months ago. They were suspended for refusing to sign the impeachment notice issued to deputy governor for defecting to the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The trio; Iroju, Williams, and Tomomewo were not pleased with the decision of the assembly, challenged their suspension at the law court.
