Ready To Lead Africa engages Ondo Lawmakers on electoral amendment

AKURE- A Non-Governmental Organisation, “READY TO LEAD AFRICA” has engaged some serving lawmakers on the current electoral amendment bill on the need for the lawmakers to take the bill serious and legislate on citizen demands.

Daisi Omokungbe who is the Ondo State lead while leading the team to the constituency offices of the lawmakers in Akure explained that the move was necessary to ensure our lawmakers make the right decisions on the electoral amendment bill. He laid more emphasis on the need for lawmakers to amend the electoral bill for Nigeria to achieve free, credible and fair elections.

He highlighted salient points which should be looked into by lawmakers for the amendment of the electoral act.

The areas as the stated in the position paper tagged” Our Citizens Top 10 Priorities on Electoral Act Amendment.”

  1. Strengthen the independence of the commission financially
  2. Publication of polling unit level results
  3. Voting right for Nigerians in the diaspora
  4. Protecting the voting right of visually impaired and incapacitated voters
  5. Cost of nominations form of candidates
  6. Promoting the inclusion of women, Youths, and person living with disability in politics
  7. Legitimize the use of technology in the electoral process through electronic Accreditation of voters
  8. Electoral offences section 124 of the Electoral act, 2010 should be amended to impose a stiffer section for bribery and vote-buying.
  9. The conduct of security personnel on election duty should be amended
  10. Early voting for Nigerians on essential election duty should be amended

At the constituency office of Mr. Ayo Akinyelure who is representing Ondo Central district in the Senate, his personal assistant, Mr. Gbenga Akindana implored the Ready to Lead Africa team members not to sell their consciousness because of money and also not to be bought by the political class. He commended them for the initiative and promised to transmit the position paper to his boss as soon as possible.

Ready To Lead Africa is an organization that build political consciousness of youths and engage stakeholders to be interested in the electoral process of the country.
