Justice Olagbegi, COREN Registrar, and Falaye bags Achievers University honorary degrees

Owo – Justice Adesuyi Olateru Olagbegi, Prof Joseph Obofoni Odigure, Mr. Foluso Falaye and have bagged honorary degrees at the 10th convocation ceremony of Achievers University on Saturday.

The emeritus judge was honored alongside the Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Prof. Joseph Odigure, and a business tycoon, Mr. Foluso Falaye at the event which was held at the permanent site of the university in Owo.

The Pro-chancellor of Achievers University, Dr Bode Ayorinde, while speaking at the event again called for massive industrialization of the Nigerian economy as the solution to poverty and insecurity ravaging the nation.

Ayorinde who added that industrialization would also reduce unemployment. The former lawmaker noted that the statistics on unemployment was worrisome and has aggravated criminality nationwide.

“The idle youths are bubbling with knowledge and energy which are not employed for economic growth, but made available for ‘yahoo activities’, prostitution, rape among others. When there is no employment, there will be no production of goods and services,” he added.

Ayorinde who is also a legal practitioner, said each state of the country should as a matter of urgency establish industrial estates across the country and provide incentives such as tax holiday, easy access to land and provision of good roads to encourage the private sector to establish companies.

“It is very important for the federal government and every state government to put in place industrial policies, to be reviewed periodically with a view to assist small industries to become bigger. Government should establish industrial incubation centers in each state of the federation with a mandate to systematically grow industries in the country,” Ayorinde said.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Aje while closing the ceremony thanked Prof. Odigure and the Olowo of Owo, all the guests, for gracing the event.

He acknowledged the good works of Prof J.A Odebiyi who was the first vice chancellor, also he acknowledges Engr Prof Tunji Samuel Ibiyemi, the second vice chancellor who worked relentlessly to add two colleges law and engineering technology.

The university conferred first degrees on a total of 339 in with 15 graduands in first-class. Master’s degrees and masters of business administration were also conferred on the graduands in the post graduate categories.

Ms Mariam Oluwadamilola Oloko emerged the best overall among the graduands who were on the first-class category.

Some of the dignitaries present at the event were; HRM Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin, the Olowo of Owo, the former speaker of the house of representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, Mr. Foluso Bamidele the managing director of the central bank of Nigeria.
