Nigeria each year has a set of public holidays declared by the federal government.

It is usually days set aside to honor religious activities and celebrations, mark important dates which is crucial to the corporate existence of the nation.

In 2022, there is going to be a total of twenty-one (21) public holidays. They are listed below according to the dates and months in which they are to be observed.

January

  • New year’s day celebration; Saturday, January 1, 2022.
  • New year public holiday; Monday, January 3, 2022.

April

  • Good Friday; Friday, April 15, 2022.
  • Easter Monday; Monday, April 18, 2022.

May

  • Labour day; Sunday, May 1, 2022.
  • Workers’ day; Monday, May 2, 2022.
  • Eid al-Fitr; Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
  • Eid al-Fitr public holiday; Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
  • Children day; Friday, May 27, 2022.

July

  • Eid al-Adha, likely to be between July 9 to July 11, 2022.
  • Eid al-Adha; Monday 11, 2022.
  • Eid al-Adha holiday; Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

October

  • Independence Day; Nigeria’s 61nd annivarsary; Saturday, October 1, 2022.
  • Independence day holiday; Monday, October 3, 2022.
  • Mawlid; Saturday, October 8, 2022
  • Mawlid public holiday; Monday, October 10, 2022.

December

  • Christmas day celebration; Sunday, December 25, 2022.
  • Boxing day holiday; Monday, December 26, 2022.
  • Christmas public holiday; Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
