TRANSPORTATION: Six rail projects to gulp N59 billion as counterpart funding in 2022 budget

The federal government says a sum of N59 billion is to be paid as counterpart funding for six rail projects in 2022.

The federal government says a sum of N59 billion is to be paid as counterpart funding for six rail projects in 2022.

This is contained in the annex of the 2022 budget signed into an appropriation act by president Muhammadu Buhari on December 31 in Abuja.

According to the budget document, the ministry of transportation under the watch of Mr Rotimi Ameachi who is the minister of transportation is to oversee the six rail projects including new and ongoing in some regions of the country.

The projects include the ongoing Lagos – Kano; Calabar – Lagos; Ajaokuta 0 Itakepe-Aladja Warri rail projects.

The ones include Port Harcourt – Maiduguri; Kano – Katsina – Jibiya – Maradi in the Niger Republic; and Abuja – Itakpe and Aladja (Warri) – Warri Port and Refinery/Warri New habour respectively.

Though, the president expressed worries about the changes made to the budget draft by the national assembly which he said the executive will address by presenting a budget amendment bill to resolve the issue.
