Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, says all government appointees who do not resign from office to pursue political ambitions “would have someone decide for them.”
On Wednesday at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, President Muhammadu Buhari directed all cabinet members and other appointees seeking elective office in 2023 should resign on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.
“We are dealing with a government policy, a government directive, a circular of the government issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation duly approved by the President [which] clearly states who is to go,” Mr Shehu said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday.
“So, I think that in a few occupied offices like that, you make the decision by yourself otherwise, someone would decide for you. So, that’s the point,” he said.
