Nasir Kwarra, chairperson of the National Population Commission (NPC), says President Bola Tinubu will announce new dates for the 2023 national population and housing census.⁣

The 2023 census was postponed in April by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kwarra disclosed this to state house correspondents after a debriefing session with the president at the state house in Abuja on Thursday.⁣

Tinubu’s meeting with Kwarra comes nine weeks after the census was postponed by Buhari.

Buhari, despite the postponement, directed NPC to continue its preparation for the 2023 census to ensure the commission doesn’t stop on the success recorded for the 2023 census exercise.

The former president had said the incoming administration would announce a new date for the exercise.

The commission said it has spent over N200 billion before the exercise was postponed.
