Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, suffered an embarrassing situation after revealing that money has been sent to each senator to enjoy their recess.

On Monday, the red chamber concluded the screening and confirmation exercise for ministerial nominees forwarded to it by President Bola Tinubu.

The senators adjourned the plenary to September 26 to proceed with their legislative recess.

Akpabio while addressing his colleagues before the motion for adjournment was moved, said money has been sent by the clerk of the National Assembly to the various accounts of senators to “enjoy” their holidays.

He said, “In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly”.

His colleagues quickly informed him that he was speaking before live television cameras and journalists.

Akpabio, in a sense of humour quickly withdrew the statement.

“I withdraw that statement,” he said.

“In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”

This comes a few weeks after the National Assembly approved N40bn for the purchase of vehicles for Senators and House of Representatives members.
