Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has resigned amid the political war between the Governor and the immediate past Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike.
Joseph Johnson, Commissioner for Information and Communications, confirmed the development to newsmen on Wednesday.
He said Governor Fubara would announce a replacement at the appropriate time.
“The former Chief of Staff, Hon Chidi Amadi, has resigned. The governor will announce another Chief of Staff at the appropriate time,” Johnson said.
“It is the prerogative of the governor to appoint when he wants it. He will tell us and we will announce it and you will also get the release to that effect.”
Before he was appointed as the Chief of Staff, Amadi, who is from the same Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state as Wike, was the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the LGA, and a known ally of the former Governor Wike.
The resignation of Amadi brings the count to 10 members of the Fubara’s cabinet who have left the government following the rift between the Governor and his former political godfather, Wike who is the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT).
