Abuja, Nigeria
The federal government has inaugurated a performance management system (PMS) aimed at boosting service delivery.
The inauguration was performed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, on Wednesday in Abuja.
The SGF said the PMS is in tandem with the government’s federal civil service strategy and implementation plan 2025 (FCSSIP).
According to Akume, the PMS, domiciled in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in public service.
He further said the system ensures individuals are held responsible for their assigned duties by setting clear expectations and tracking performance through well-defined key performance indicators (KPIs).
“PMS is a system that will ensure that civil servants understand their roles and perform effectively and maximally within clearly defined, measurable metrics that will lead them to achieve set targets and goals,” Akume said.
The permanent secretary in charge of the General Services Office, Nnamdi Mbaeri, thanked Akume for supporting the PMS initiative.
Mbaeri pledged the commitment of the OSGF toward ensuring the full implementation of the initiative.
Also speaking, the OSGF director of human resources, Anthony Obioha, described the inauguration of the PMS as a call to action for every department, unit, and staff member to take ownership of the system and ensure its full implementation.
According to him, the PMS is designed to foster a culture where performance is monitored, feedback is timely, continuous development is encouraged, and excellence is acknowledged and rewarded.
