N-Power fraud: ICPC arrests, detains popular singer

By TechnocratMedia

D’banj, a Nigerian popular and award-winning singer, has been arrested and detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

An official of ICPC told TheCable Lifestyle D’banj was arrested by the commission on Tuesday after the music was summoned a few weeks ago.

It was gathered that D’banj is under investigation for allegedly diverting funds released for the federal government’s N-Power project.

In 2016, the Buhari-led Federal Government commenced the N-Power initiative to address and reduce unemployment challenges in the country.

According to ICPC, the stipends instituted for the beneficiaries of N-Power were paid to accounts allegedly linked to the music star.

The Commission was said to have invited D’banj for interrogation for several weeks but he reportedly shunned the invitation, saying his tight schedule prevented him from honouring the invitations.

Weeks after the refusal to honour its invitation, the ICPC commenced efforts to arrest him.

According to TheCable, the move prompted D’banj’s decision to appear at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, he was detained after interrogation by the Commission.

The source also disclosed that ICPC has rejected D’banj’s request for administrative bail due to his initial refusal to honour its invitation.

D’banj is still in detention as of Wednesday morning.

It was also gathered that the ICPC is considering approaching a court to extend D’banj’s detention pending the conclusion of its investigation.
