Abeokuta, Nigeria
The Ogun State government has declared a seven-to-six curfew on Sagamu following the recent clashes among rival cult groups in the town.
Movement in the town would be restricted from 7 pm to 6 am, the government announced in a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the Governor, Lekan Adeniran on Monday.
“This is to notify residents of Sagamu and its environs of total restriction of human and vehicular movement as a way of taking firm control of the security architecture of the area and protecting the lives of the people and their property,” the statement said.
The government urged residents of Sagamu to abide by the restriction order pending when security agencies restored normalcy.
Adeniran implored residents of the Sagamu to cooperate with security agencies in order “to restore normalcy and bring perpetrators of these dastardly acts to book.”
No fewer than 20 persons were said to have been killed by cultists between Saturday and the early hours of Monday in Sagamu.
