Abuja, Nigeria
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), says it has cleared 2024,322 passport backlogs in forty days after Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior gave the directive.
Dotun Aridegbe, a deputy comptroller of immigration who is NIS spokesperson, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen noting that: “The days of passports backlog are now over.”
Tunji-Ojo immediately after the assumption of office in August following the swearing-in of new ministers by President Bola Tinubu ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to clear the over 200,000 pending passport applications in two weeks.
The minister had promised to remove all bottlenecks in the acquisition of Nigerian passports and other immigration documents.
According to Aridegbe, the acting comptroller general (CG) of immigration, Caroline Adepoju Wura-Ola, activated a full-scale implementation team of the NIS hierarchy, which recorded tremendous success.
NIS calls on Nigerians who have applied for their passports to pick up it across their offices nationwide.
“Please help us tell applicants whose passports are lying in various passport offices across the country to go and collect their passports. We are working round the clock to make applicants happy,” he said.
