Evelyn Anite, a former state minister for investment and privatisation in Uganda, has defended her decision to retrieve an ambulance donated to her district after losing an election.
In 2021, Anite ran for the seat in the country’s parliament to represent Koboko municipality but lost the election.
During her campaign, the 38-year-old politician donated an ambulance to the health department in her municipal to facilitate the transportation of pregnant women and mothers to referral hospitals during emergencies.
Anite provided the gesture to reduce home deliveries amongst women as well as maternal mortality in the municipality.
However, after losing the election, Anite withdrew the ambulance, according to Africa Fact Zone.
Defending her action, she said withdrew the ambulance because they didn’t vote for her.
She said she was proud of her action because they rejected her in the election.
“My dear, I actually did it, and I am very proud of my action. Once they said go away, I packed all my belongings and left them. now I hear people crying as if I was the first one to call it quits. The Bible says the wage of sin is death,” Anite said.
