Nigeria Police Gets New IGP

ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, as Acting Inspector General of Police.

Announcing the appointment to State House Correspondents in Abuja, the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, said it was with immediate effect.

He said all recent changes were in line with the determination of President Buhari to rejig the security architecture of the country to ensure that the security challenges bedeviling the nation were brought to an end.

Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi said the President had charged the new appointee to rise to the challenge to ensure that policing reform policy of the administration were fully prioritised and implemented to enable the police perform most effectively for the peace and security of lives and property of Nigerians.

He said President had expressed appreciation to outgoing Inspector General of Police GP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu for his professionalism and dedication to duty during the period of his tenure.

President Buhari had in February extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police for three months.
