ABUJA – The Nigeria Police Force has deployed officers and men to the headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the federal capital territory (FCT).
The development according to TheCable sparked tension around the APC national secretariat recently christened Muhammadu Buhari House.
It is unclear why the police deployed their personnel in the secretariat, but the medium understands that the law enforcement agency is working on a security report available to it.
The over 25 police officers took strategic positions on Blantyre street, where the party is located at Wuse 2 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
In the meantime, the ruling party issued a notice, saying John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of the caretaker, will explain to journalists why police officers were deployed to the secretariat.
“NOTICE: The National Secretary will brief the media on increased security presence at the Party’s National Secretariat. He is on his way to the Secretariat,” the party said in a terse notice.
Since the 4:3 split ruling of the supreme court on the Ondo State election petition which affirmed Rotimi Akeredolu as governor, there have been concerns about the competence of Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor, to lead the party going forward.
In a quick review after the judgement of the supreme court, party chieftains like Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labor and employment, said Buni and any other officer holding executive positions in government on the caretaker committee should be replaced as delay may be too dangerous for the party.
According to him, the apex court queried the legality of Buni to lead the party, nominate candidates for elections and conduct the just-concluded congresses.
