Former governor Rauf Aregbesola and minister of interior, have lost his ward to governor Gboyega Oyetola at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.
Mr Aregbesola and the incumbent governor, Mr Oyetola have been at loggerhead in the last few months over political permutations.
Mr Oyetola is seeking reelection for a second term in Osun.
He polled 309 votes at ward 8, Ifofin, Ilesha east, while Aregbesola’s preferred aspirant had Moshood Adeoti, scored 146 votes.
According to TheCable, Saheed Adegoke, leader of Aregbesola’s loyalists at the ward, told journalists that the minister was not around to cast his vote in the exercise.
Mr Adegoke said his leader, Aregbesola was on a presidential assignment.
According to reports, some APC members loyal to Aregbesola’s faction had alleged removal of their names from the party’s register which led to their disenfranchisement.
The party members claimed that despite having the party’s membership cards, their names were missing on the register at the wards for the primary election.
In the last few months, APC in Osun has been divided into two major factions. One loyal to the incumbent governor, Mr Oyetola. The other group is loyal to the minister of interior, Mr Aregbesola in support of Moshood Adeoti, a former secretary to state government
This development has led to disharmony among the members of the party.
