No fewer than 365,088 eligible voters are expected to elect a new lawmaker for Akure North/Akure South federal constituency on Saturday, February 26, 2022 bye-election.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a statement on Friday in Akure.

Rufus Akeju, the resident electoral commissioner disclosed that the Commission would use the voters’ register used in the 2019 general elections for the exercise.

He said new voters who are registering in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise would not be able to participate in the bye-election as CVR data were yet to be added to the official voters’ register.

According to INEC, the federal constituency has a total of 365,088 registered voters in 2019.

“Akure North has 74,825 registered voters while Akure South has 290,267 registered voters in the same year.”

“The newly introduced technology, Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS), would also be deployed for the process/exercise of the bye-election.”
